Bexley Baptist Church

Looking Back and Moving Forward

Starting as a home church in late 1963, Bexley was officially recognized as a mission church of Hillcrest Baptist Church on June 13, 1965. In July 1966, Hillcrest Baptist resolved to support the establishment of a mission church in the Bexley community. The congregation of Hillcrest voted to borrow $4,000 to purchase 9.4 acres and construct a building for the mission. On April 2, 1969, the Bexley Baptist Mission voted to petition Hillcrest Baptist to allow the mission to become an autonomous Baptist church, and a formal request for membership was submitted to the George County Baptist Association. Brother Herman Rouse was called as the first pastor of Bexley Baptist Church.

In 1984, Brother Larry A. Havard was called to serve as the pastor of Bexley Baptist. Under the leadership of Brother Larry and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, along with the hard work of many dedicated members, the church has undergone numerous additions and renovations over the years. As the community grew, the church adapted to meet its needs and has been blessed with a modern, fully-equipped campus focused on spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the community.

In early 2025, following a vision led by the Holy Spirit for advancing the Gospel, Bexley launched The Outpost Youth and Children's Ministry. The Outpost is dedicated to creating Gospel-centered, fun, and educational environments designed to foster fellowship, safety, friendships, and Bible lessons. Located adjacent to the original facility, The Outpost features spacious rooms, modern technology, a full kitchen, and a commercial playground.

Sunday evenings at Bexley now offer something for everyone, young and old. Activities include choir practice, adult Bible study, Outpost Youth, Outpost Preschool (for potty-trained children), and Outpost Kids.
